Hyannis Shooting: The Barnstable Police Department, SWAT team, EMS, and Barnstable Fire Department are investigating an active shooter currently barricaded inside a building near the school zone on Wednesday. According to law enforcement agencies, parents and guardians are to avoid the following school as a mandatory lockdown has been placed following an active incident. The Barnstable High School, Barnstable Intermediate School, Hyannis West Elementary School, Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center, Barnstable Community Innovation School, and Transportation/Facilities Office have been placed in a shelter-in-place.

A statement from Barnstable Public Schools Community reads: We are writing to inform you that Barnstable High School, Barnstable Intermediate School, Hyannis West Elementary School, Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center, Barnstable Community Innovation School, and our Transportation/Facilities Office are in a Shelter In Place/modified lockdown where no one is permitted into our schools or to exit them, but school operations within the building will continue. This is a result of police activity in the Hyannis area. There is no threat directed at any of our schools. We will provide updates at a later point in time. Sincerely, Barnstable Public Schools and Barnstable Police are dealing with a barricaded individual, possibly armed with a firearm.

The building is currently surrounded by over a dozen officers and SWAT. The suspect has fired multiple shots, according to information on the Cape Cod Incident. Multiple shots were fired at the police, but there were no reported injuries. Swat officers are confirmed on location. The suspect is confined to the barricaded building. Barnstable Police issued a shelter-in-place order via automated phone calls. The incident is in the vicinity of Massachusetts 28 and Bearse Road in Barnstable, MA. Law enforcement agencies have urged everyone to avoid the scene, as this is an ongoing incident. Law enforcement authorities did not immediately reveal the identity of the suspect.
