Following a collision in Clarendon County on Thursday afternoon, a man from Sumter lost his life.

The collision occurred little under two miles outside of Summerton on U.S. 301 (St. Paul Road) close to Liberty Hill Road, just before six o’clock in the evening, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to Ridgeway, the accident happened when a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling northward tried to turn left onto Liberty Hill Church Road and flipped over on its passenger side.

According to Ridgeway, the driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to McLeod Health Clarendon Hospital by emergency medical care personnel. The passenger, identified as Angel Albiter Hernandez, 47, passed away at the scene, according to Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell of Clarendon County.

According to Ridgeway, the collision is currently being looked into by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
